Albania

Tirana, the charming city and capital of Albania, is known for its colorful Ottoman and Soviet-era architecture. Pastel buildings surround the city’s focal point, Skanderbeg Square, which is named for equestrian statue of a national hero. Tirana is the city with never-ending movement and energy.

Shkoder is one of the oldest cities in Albania, founded in the 4th century B.C. as a the center of the Labeat tribe of Illirians known with the name Scodra. Shkoder or Shkodra is located on the bank of Skadar lake within 20 km from the Adriatic coast and 120 km from the capital city of Albania.The city is an important cultural and economical center of Albania. 

Saranda is a beautiful coastal town, considered as the unofficial capital of the Albanian Riviera. The inside of the town is a combination of top new buildings, old taverns, cafeterias and houses built in the traditional impressive stone style, even with top roofs of stone plates. Great restaurants, a beautiful coastline and the perfect base to explore other breath-taking places nearby are main reasons for tourists arrival during the summer. 

The city of Gjirokastra is part of the UNESCO World Heritage List and it is one of the most attractive tourist sites of the country. The main characteristic of Gjirokastra is the intensive use of stone in building the houses, which look like small fortresses, and the streets are made of cobblestone. The town of Gjirokastra is also known for its culinary art and special dishes like pasha qofte, shapkat, oshaf with dried figs.

The UNESCO-listed town of Berat is a delight for all history and culture enthusiasts. Its most striking feature is the white Ottoman houses climbing up the hill to the castle, which is why it is often referred to as the town of a thousand windows. Apart from that, there is also the ancient Berat Castle, one of the city’s most well-known attractions.

Durres, home of the biggest seaport of Albania,  is a versatile city with both a modern and ancient appeal. With the biggest and most popular beach in Albania on one side and stretches of beautiful Albanian countryside and farmland on the other, the area of Durres is the ultimate trio of city, beach and countryside.
